A barrel hoop does one job — it holds the drum tight. But the lock clip is the part that makes that job possible. It's the latch mechanism that tightens and locks the hoop in place, and it's under constant mechanical stress every time the barrel is opened, closed, and transported. If either weld joint on the lock clip fails, the hoop loosens, the seal breaks, and the contents leak.
That's why the lock clip isn't just another weld — it's the most critical joint on the entire barrel hoop. This isn't a general-purpose spot welder with a custom fixture bolted on. Welding a flat clip onto a curved barrel hoop isn't the same as welding two flat sheets. The contact area is a narrow band, and any misalignment means the electrode only partially contacts the workpiece — resulting in inconsistent welds or electrode damage.
